About this role
BlackRock SMA Solutions helps clients customize portfolios for unique tax, values-alignment, or investment exposures across direct indexing, fixed income, active equity, and multi-asset. The focus of this role is to provide leadership to the Aperio engineering team (a subset of the overall SMA Solutions Engineering Team) and build a vision for equity portfolio construction technology (we call that software ecosystem "Arya"). All this while keeping focus on our clients and users. Arya is based on microservices architecture with our web application being the interface with users. Aperio practices agile software development and works in two-week sprints. This role will work closely with the technology team, project management team and end users. The role is perfectly suited for a seasoned technology enterprise leader that is obsessed with client satisfaction.

Manage development and delivery of programs and solutions for Aperio’s Arya software ecosystem.
Partner with leadership engineering and product managers to ensure alignment with engineering and product priorities.
Occasionally, fully own feature development, from adding functionality to the front-end of our web applications to adding capabilities in microservices to adding structures in relational database.
Design (parts of) microservices ecosystem that provides functionality for equity portfolio construction tools for direct indexing.
Provide consistent improvements to Aperio’s enterprise fintech platform through modernization of current components, choice of contemporary technologies, and third-party software.
Take a lead role on projects and initiatives.
Mentor and help grow junior members of the team.
Keep up to date with developments in technologies Aperio is using.
Participate in recruitment efforts.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Typically 10 years of experience leading teams and projects within engineering, software development, or in an equivalent role.
Advanced knowledge of web development, with a deep understanding of system and application architecture.
Solid knowledge of programming fundamentals—algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and paradigms.
Nice to have:
Experience in fintech industry, especially investment management.
Advanced degree in computer science.
For California only the salary range for this position is $200,000 – $260,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits.
