Job Description

This role supports the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) homebuilder finance business, with a focus on underwriting and managing credit exposure for privately held homebuilders and housing capital sponsors. The position partners closely with origination and portfolio management teams, supporting transactions from initial deal evaluation through ongoing portfolio monitoring to ensure sound credit risk management across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities include overseeing accurate and consistent financial statement spreading, preparing quarterly trend analyses and monitoring reports, performing covenant testing, and ensuring compliance with bank credit policies and spreading standards. The role involves analyzing financial data, preparing comprehensive written credit analyses, evaluating portfolio credit quality and risk ratings, and supporting industry and sector reviews.

In addition, the role collaborates with internal stakeholders to prepare and present credit requests for approval, including renewals, modifications, extensions, covenant changes, and new-money requests. Responsibilities also include maintaining compliance monitoring and financial reporting databases to track credit agreement requirements, borrower financial reporting, covenant compliance, and key credit metrics.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed financial analysis, including spreading financial statements, covenant testing, risk rating evaluation, and quarterly credit monitoring
  • Prepare written credit memoranda for renewals, amendments, extensions, and modifications, and origination
  • Analyze portfolio-level trends, credit quality, and concentration risks, and support industry and sector reviews
  • Maintain credit monitoring databases tracking financial reporting requirements, covenant compliance, and credit metrics
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, procedures, and documentation standards
  • Coordinate internally with Credit Approvers, Relationship Managers, and other partner teams to support timely and accurate credit decisions


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Three to five years of experience in a finance / analytical-related role


Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Background in economics, accounting, and/or finance with the ability to apply that knowledge to lending and credit risk analysis
  • Experience supporting commercial or corporate banking portfolios, underwriting, or credit analysis
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including covenant testing, credit modeling, and trend analysis
  • Ability to prepare clear, well-structured written credit analyses and technical reports
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate risk and issues effectively to internal partners
  • Ability to independently execute straightforward credit requests for new and existing clients and collaborate with Credit Approvers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Experience using AI is a plus

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $98,345.00 - $115,700.00
