Job Description
U.S. Bank is seeking a visionary Software Engineering Director – Elavon POS to lead the strategy, architecture, engineering execution, and modernization of our next-generation Point of Sale platform. This leader will be responsible for driving the transformation of Elavon POS into a modern, cloud-native, scalable, AI-enabled platform that delivers exceptional merchant experiences while supporting future business growth. The Director will oversee global engineering teams and partner closely with Product, Architecture, Operations, Risk, Security, and Executive Leadership to deliver secure, resilient, high-performing solutions. This role requires a strong technology leader who can balance innovation, operational excellence, engineering rigor, and business outcomes. The position will play a critical role in advancing Elavon's strategic POS modernization efforts, including cloud transformation, AI adoption, platform scalability, and enterprise integration initiatives
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technology strategy, architecture vision, and engineering roadmap for the next-generation Elavon Point of Sale (POS) platform.
Drive modernization of POS products and platforms, delivering scalable, cloud-native, API-first solutions that enhance merchant experiences.
Lead global engineering teams responsible for application development, platform engineering, integrations, and production operations.
Establish and scale engineering best practices including DevSecOps, CI/CD, SRE, observability, automation, and quality engineering.
Champion AI-first software engineering, leveraging AI-assisted development, testing, automation, and operational intelligence to improve productivity and speed-to-market.
Own platform reliability, resiliency, security, performance, incident management, disaster recovery, and operational excellence.
Partner with Product, Business, Risk, Operations, and Executive Leadership to define priorities, align investments, and drive measurable business outcomes.
Lead cloud transformation initiatives utilizing modern architectures, microservices, and enterprise technology standards that support future growth.
Build, coach, and retain high-performing engineering leaders and teams while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning.
Establish engineering KPIs, workforce plans, vendor strategies, and governance frameworks while influencing enterprise technology direction and investment decisions.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- 12 or more years of relevant software engineering experience
- Eight or more years of experience leading multiple software engineering teams
Preferred Skills/Experience
Experience with Point of Sale (POS), Merchant Acquiring, Payments, FinTech, or Digital Commerce platform experience
Software Engineering Leadership with experience managing large, global engineering organizations
AWS Cloud Architecture, cloud modernization, and large-scale digital transformation initiatives
Microservices, Distributed Systems, API-First Design, and Event-Driven Architectures
DevSecOps, CI/CD, Test Automation, Infrastructure as Code, and Modern SDLC Practices
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Observability, Monitoring, Incident Management, and Platform Resiliency
AI/Generative AI, AI-Assisted Development, Intelligent Automation, and Responsible AI Governance
Experience delivering highly available, secure, customer-facing applications in regulated environments
Strong executive communication, strategic planning, stakeholder management, and cross-functional leadership skills
Experience with vendor management, workforce strategy, financial planning, and large-scale technology investment decisions
Location expectations
This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $186,150.00 - $219,000.00
