Your role as Economic Research Economist

  • Conduct research and policy analysis on topics in financial economics, international finance, and macroeconomics.
  • Develop models and conduct empirical analyses to deliver new insights into the economic forces that drive the global economy and international labor markets.
  • Develop and estimate structural models of individual and firm behavior.
  • Draw causal inferences using advanced econometric techniques including synthetic control methods, regression discontinuity design, instrumental variable analysis, and quantile regressions.
  • Analyze large datasets to deliver new insights on macroeconomic policy.
  • Develop and implement new approaches to inform policy.
  • Publish innovative findings in academic journals and write policy briefings.
  • Advise Bank senior management on issues of microeconomic and macroeconomic policy.

What we are looking for:

  • Ph.D. in Economics, plus 1 year of experience in the position offered or as a Professor teaching graduate courses in macroeconomics to Master’s and Ph.D. students.
  • Dissertation research must have included building a tractable model of firm and worker re-allocation over the business cycle, documenting worker re-allocation during the Great Recession in administrative firm-level data, quantifying the role of search frictions in determining aggregate labor productivity after a large economic downturn, studying the economic risks faced by the self-employed in the labor market, and using longitudinal data to quantify sorting in knowledge production.
  • Employees can expect to be in the New York office a couple of days per week as needed for meetings and team collaboration and should live within a commutable distance.

Salary Range: $200,000 - $275,200
