About the Opportunity

The Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is looking for a Research Associate in the Regional Economics section. In this role, the ideal candidate will gather and analyze regional and US data and facilitate dispersion of regional economic information through Bank publications, internal documents for FOMC preparations, and various special projects and presentations. In addition, this candidate will provide knowledge of the region and region-specific resources to Regional and Research economists, as well as other areas of the Bank and public. The position is located in Richmond, VA.

What You Will Do:

Essential Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Contribute to regional analysis through work with Bank publications such as Snapshot, Regional memo (for FOMC preparation), and special reports for management and officers. Present results in written summaries, supporting charts, tables, and maps.
  • Facilitate dispersion of regional economic information to the public through upkeep of US & Fifth District databases, preparation of presentations, updating data and overviews of the Fifth District and answering inquiries from the public. Gather data by replicating established data collection procedures. Learn data definitions and implications and get to know different internal and external sources of data.
  • Support other Bank sections/departments with knowledge of region and region-specific resources, as well as other specialized skills (ie, software). Produce charts and graphs of economic indicators and variables for use in speeches and presentations.
  • Work with Regional and Research economists on papers and special projects. Determine what information is relevant to the project and provide economists with summaries of findings, both orally and in writing.
  • Learn sources for keeping abreast of current economic developments.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Economics or related field; minimum overall GPA of 3.2 and in major GPA should be higher (required).
  • Excellent attention to detail (required).
  • Strong oral/written communication skills (required).
  • Competence with Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and Word (required).
  • Experience with a statistical program such as Stata, SAS, or R (required).

  • The hiring range is $56,600 – $77,880 annually.
