The Federal Reserve has developed a new interbank 24x7x365 real-time gross settlement (RTGS) service with integrated clearing functionality, called the FedNow Service. This service enables financial institutions to provide their customers with the ability to send and receive payments any time, any day, and have full access to those funds within seconds. This position is a unique opportunity to be part of this mission-critical Federal Reserve initiative that is transforming the payments landscape in the United States.

Candidates that live near one of our Reserve Bank locations will be provided some work from home flexibility. Rules for hybrid work arrangements differs from Bank to Bank and should be discussed during the interview process.

The AVP and Head of Agility is key to the success of the engineering organization. You’ll report to the FedNow CIO, and work closely with the Technology Leadership Team, especially the Head of Product Engineering. You’ll direct key strategic initiatives within the Technology organization, especially cross-functionally across the technology functions: Architecture, Engineering, Security, Technical Operations, and Quality. You’ll partner with and advise the entire leadership team, support key initiatives, and influence and drive all areas. In particular, you’ll own maturing and evolving our agile practices. You’ll be comfortable navigating within a highly technical organization and establishing credibility with technologists and other stakeholders.

What will be expected of you in this role-

  • Lead strategic and tactical initiatives across the Technology organization.
  • Be an integral part of the Technology leadership team to drive initiatives, and help set direction on key priorities.
  • Maintain visibility across the Technology organization, identify issues and opportunities, and advise the Technology Leadership Team.
  • Partnership with teams and leadership across the Federal Reserve System to act as interface between FedNow Technology and other system groups.
  • Drive ongoing Technology organizational operations such as planning, financial tracking, communications, and organizational improvements, including budgeting, and the performance management process.
  • Own communications and governance processes internally, as well as with oversight groups and key partners.
  • Make sure the regular team operations move smoothly and effectively. You’ll be intimately familiar with the holistic team’s dynamics, and integral to ensuring smooth operations.
  • Advocate and champion agile processes and practices. You’ll act as a leader and evangelist for agile practices and processes across technology, including our DevSecOps methodologies.
  • Manage 10 – 15 members of the Agilist Team.
  • Proactively identify and solve problems, disputes and issues before they escalate to the Executive Leadership Team.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field
  • 10+ years progressive experience in leadership and influence, including direct management experience, including leading leaders.
  • You’ll be experienced in leading senior stakeholders and collaborating across multiple stakeholders at the same time to manage priorities and agendas.
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks, as well as help others prioritize their tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes and best practices, especially SAFe.
  • Experience managing technical teams in large delivery programs.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Outstanding attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, both structural and technological.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of software development processes and best practices.
  • Familiar with modern technology, engineering techniques, and cloud technologies.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
