Software Development Engineering - Advisor I

At Fiserv, we are dedicated to transforming financial services technology to benefit our clients. As an Application Development – Advisor I, you will join a vibrant team focused on creating innovative solutions that streamline financial transactions and ensure security. This role will involve designing, developing, and maintaining applications that meet the dynamic needs of our clients.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of software applications to support Fiserv's business initiatives.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Perform coding, testing, and debugging of applications to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance to ensure best practices.

Experience you'll need to have:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in computer science.
  • 15+ years of experience in application development
  • 15+ years of experience in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS

Technical Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end design, development, and maintenance of mainframe applications (e.g., COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS).
  • Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and performance optimization strategies.
  • Guide modernization efforts, including integration with distributed systems or cloud platforms.

Solution Architecture & Design

  • Collaborate with enterprise architects to design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
  • Evaluate legacy systems and propose enhancements or replacements aligned with business goals.
  • Ensure architectural decisions support long-term system sustainability and compliance.

Project & Delivery Management

  • Oversee project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables for mainframe-related initiatives.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (QA, DevOps, Business Analysts) to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Manage risk and issue resolution during development and deployment phases.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and vice versa.
  • Present progress updates, technical challenges, and strategic recommendations to leadership.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor junior developers and provide technical training on mainframe technologies.
  • Conduct code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Maintenance & Support

  • Lead incident management and root cause analysis for production issues.
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, and uptime through proactive monitoring and tuning.
  • Manage change control and versioning for mainframe applications.

Compliance & Security

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, HIPAA) and internal policies.
  • Implement security best practices for data handling, access control, and audit logging.
  • Participate in internal and external audits as a technical SME.

Innovation & Modernization

  • Drive initiatives for mainframe modernization (e.g., API enablement, microservices integration).
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and tools that can enhance legacy systems.
  • Lead proof-of-concept (PoC) efforts for hybrid architectures involving mainframe and cloud.

Experience that would be great to have:

  • Experience in the financial services industry
