Job Description

About the Role:

This position leads Invesco’s Corporate Accounting Policy team, Private Markets Accounting Policy and Investments Accounting function. The role is highly collaborative and strategic, requiring regular interaction with senior leadership across Controllers, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, HR, and business units. It involves providing authoritative technical accounting guidance on complex and strategic transactions, mergers and acquisitions, evaluating financial reporting implications, and developing formal accounting positions. The position demands deep expertise in US GAAP, strong knowledge of financial reporting for financial institutions, and the ability to navigate evolving regulatory and operational landscapes with sound judgment and leadership.

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and governance of Invesco’s accounting policies, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and alignment with industry best practices.

  • Direct the Investments Accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely accounting and reporting for Invesco’s investment portfolios, including complex and alternative asset classes.

  • Oversee Private Markets Accounting Policy, partnering with investment teams to evaluate and implement appropriate accounting treatments for new products and structures.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership across Controllers, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, HR, and business units to assess accounting implications of strategic initiatives and transactions.

  • Serve as key point of contact for external auditors regarding audit and accounting topics.

  • Represent Invesco in industry accounting standard-setting and working groups, contributing to the development of emerging guidance and peer benchmarking.

  • Lead cross-functional efforts to implement new accounting standards and regulatory changes, ensuring operational readiness and consistent application across the organization.

  • Guide the preparation of technical accounting memos and position papers for internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and regulators.

  • Review and enhance quarterly and annual SEC filings (Forms 10-Q and 10-K), including drafting new disclosures and monitoring peer disclosure trends.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a matrixed team across global shared services and Corporate Finance, fostering talent development and succession planning.

  • Deliver topical training and thought leadership to global Finance teams on accounting developments, policy updates, and control enhancements.

  • Conduct ad hoc technical research and analysis to support business decisions and regulatory inquiries.

  • Champion a culture of control and compliance, continuously improving internal control frameworks and documentation standards.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.

  • CPA required.

  • Minimum of 12+ years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Experience in a Big 4 accounting firm and a public company. The ideal candidate will have prior experience leading a team within a corporate accounting department, demonstrating the ability to manage complex technical issues, drive cross-functional collaboration, and develop high-performing teams.

  • Demonstrated expertise in U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and investment accounting, with a proven track record of leading corporate accounting teams, driving cross-functional collaboration, and delivering high-quality financial reporting and controls in a complex, global environment.
