As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within Consumer & Community Banking, you will contribute to the design, development, and support of mainframe applications powering credit card and payment processing functions. You will apply strong engineering fundamentals, focus on code quality and controls, and help drive continuous improvement across systems and processes.

Job responsibilities

  • Execute software solutions including design, development, and technical troubleshooting while thinking beyond routine approaches to solve complex problems
  • Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run with appropriate systems
  • Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and help ensure design constraints are met through software development
  • Gather, analyze, synthesize, and develop reporting from large, diverse data sets to drive continuous improvement of applications and systems
  • Identify hidden problems and patterns in data and use insights to improve code quality, operational hygiene, and system architecture
  • Support high-volume online and batch processing workloads by improving reliability, performance, and data integrity
  • Contribute to documentation, controls, and audit-ready deliverables aligned to payment processing and credit card platform needs

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on mainframe software engineering experience using COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, and MQ
  • Experience with batch scheduling and change management tools (for example, CA7 and ChangeMan)
  • Experience supporting or enhancing payment processing and credit card platform functionality (for example, account setup, application processing, transaction posting, billing cycles, statement generation, pricing, change-in-terms, and collections)
  • Experience with data mapping and migration across platforms, including interface development, configuration, and integration
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues, analyze root cause, and implement preventative fixes in high-availability environments
  • Strong written communication skills with experience producing clear technical documentation and supporting audit/control requirements

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Experience working with TS2 architecture and configuration options
  • Experience supporting large-scale credit card conversion programs, including cutover planning, event scheduling, and post-conversion stabilization
  • Familiarity with data extract, transform, load processes and controls in payment or card processing environments
  • Experience optimizing systems for high transaction volumes across online and batch execution paths
