Job Description Summary:
What you need to know about the role: The PayPal Merchant Integration team is looking for a talented and highly motivated seasoned architect to join the team. You will serve as a key technologist in the team responsible for designing the API specification, payment processing, and building up security components both for client SDKs and server API interactions. Meet our team: The merchant integration team empowers our merchants and partners with seamless integration solutions, enabling them to effortlessly link their systems to our user-friendly API and SDK toolkits. Job Description:
Your way to impact:

In this position, you will architect platforms and make design decisions that impact millions of merchants and consumers across the globe. You will be the go-to person for all API services and infrastructure that support PayPal customers. You will closely collaborate with enterprise architecture, infrastructure, program management, engineering, and product teams to refine and deliver the strategies and build technical & solution architecture for large initiatives. You will work with partners and conduct technical assessments and impact analysis.

Your day to day:

  • Develop a strong partnership with global business, product, and engineering leaders to define business, product, and technology architecture
  • Gain a deep understanding of domain and industry best practices to develop technical vision and strategy
  • Define and maintain long-term architecture (LTA) for merchant integration
  • Effectively communicate technology strategies and trade-offs both to senior and executive management and to development teams
  • Review solution designs to determine their technical viability and their relevance to the business goals
  • Responsible for creating simple APIs, and easy integration patterns for external services
  • Develop and govern repeatable design strategies and patterns to ensure consistent solutions
  • Guide engineering teams toward a common methodology
  • Work with the engineering team on Proof of Concepts
  • Serve as a mentor and coach for less experienced engineers, sharing your expertise and insights to foster professional growth.


What you need to bring:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience required
  • Fluency in programming languages such as Java, Node, Python
  • Expert with frameworks, and platform trends in the space of Data and Distributed Systems – Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, Elastic Search, Graph DB, etc.
  • Ability to lead various Technology Assessments.
  • Broader knowledge of infrastructure and info security
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring Data, and microservices methodology.
  • Documenting Solution Design and Architecture
  • Options Analysis and Recommendations with costs/benefits, high-level tradeoffs, constraints, and assumptions
  • Define/Refine Architecture Guidelines and Principles
  • Detailed Designs (RESTful API design)
  • Delivering proof of concepts and reference implementations
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation skills and interpersonal skills
  • Mentor and direct architects and engineers
  • Cross-functional collaboration with various stakeholders and partners (Business, Product, Engineering, and Architecture)
  • Comfortable with context-switching and managing across multiple priorities
  • Make high-quality decisions with limited information
  • Thrive in an environment of constant change
  • Be a quick learner undaunted by complex systems. Ability to expand to new domains and be able to pick up and contribute quickly
  • Experience in the payments or eCommerce industry
  • Prior knowledge of Risk Management and Fraud Detection technologies in the Payments industry is a plus
  • Prior experience in active-active, multi-AZ, and multi-region processing is a huge plus

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $107300 to $259600
