Job Summary:

PayPal World is our new global platform connecting leading digital wallets—launching with Mercado Pago, NPCI International’s UPI, and Tenpay Global—to make cross-border payments feel local. We’re building the rails that let people shop internationally, pay in-store like a local, and send money to friends abroad using the wallet they already trust.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system
  • Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow
  • Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives
  • Proactively improves existing structures & processes
  • Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems
  • Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions
  • Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
  • Trusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations

Expected Qualifications:

  • 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Solution Architecture & Pre-Sales

  • Design and architect enterprise-grade payment wallet solutions using Java microservices, APIs, and cloud-native technologies
  • Lead technical discovery sessions with prospective enterprise clients; develop compelling business cases and technical solution designs
  • Conduct proof-of-concept pilots and prepare comprehensive RFP responses addressing complex payment integration scenarios
  • Serve as primary technical advisor during pre-sales, translating client requirements into scalable architectural designs

Client Leadership & Delivery

  • Act as trusted technical advisor to Leadership and technical stakeholders throughout engagement lifecycle
  • Facilitate multi-stakeholder workshops; maintain clear communication on scope, technical decisions, and risk management
  • Support complex RFx/RFP negotiations and vendor evaluations; navigate regulatory requirements (PCI-DSS, AML/KYC, regional compliance)
  • Lead or significantly influence large-scale enterprise engagements from discovery through implementation

Technical Mentorship & Innovation

  • Mentor junior consultants and implementation teams; conduct code reviews and establish technical best practices
  • Contribute to internal innovation initiatives and product roadmap recommendations based on client feedback
  • Stay current with emerging payment technologies (blockchain, real-time payments, AI fraud detection, next-gen wallets)

Required Qualifications:

Experience

  • 7+ years professional experience in software development, solution architecture, or technical consulting
  • 5+ years specializing in payment systems, fintech solutions, or financial services platforms
  • 3+ years in client-facing pre-sales or solution engineering roles within fintech/financial services
  • Proven track record leading enterprise engagements with measurable business outcomes

Technical Expertise

  • Expert Java proficiency (Spring Boot/Cloud, microservices patterns, distributed systems, performance optimization)
  • Advanced payment systems knowledge: payment gateways, digital wallets, tokenization, PCI-DSS compliance, payment APIs
  • Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP): containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), databases (SQL/NoSQL), CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code
  • RESTful API design, event-driven architectures (Kafka/RabbitMQ), caching strategies, distributed tracing/observability tools
  • High-throughput system design, load testing, database optimization, and performance tuning

Consulting & Business Skills

  • Exceptional executive communication; ability to translate complex technical concepts for C-suite audiences
  • Expert requirements analysis, stakeholder management, and strategic problem-solving
  • Deep understanding of financial services business models, payment economics, and regulatory landscapes
  • Strong project leadership and ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
