Job Summary:

The PayPal Developer Relations (DevRel) team is transforming! PayPal for Developers is not business as usual. We reflect the world developers live and work in, know what they’re into, at any role or level of expertise. We’re the source of trust for developers that look for best practices, documentation and training, as well as the main point of contact for internal engineering teams who needs to understand the feedback and experiences of the developer community.

As the Head of Developer Communities, you will create, transform and scale PayPal’s developer communities worldwide, providing a platform of shared services to other parts of PayPal. These communities are global, online and offline, and unify the ecosystem of PayPal customers, merchants, partners, and employees in varying technical and non-technical areas of practice.

Your team will be responsible for:
Identifying global developer communities where PayPal’s products best shine and engaging developers to try PayPal’s products and services
Online and offline programs that may take place off PayPal-branded properties, like Discord, Reddit, and Stack Overflow.
PayPal user advocacy programs like Champions, developer advisory board, and merchant advisory board
Being the voice of the developer to architect and drive changes and improvements in SDKs, APIs, Docs and web to enable developers to quickly onboard and begin transacting
Providing services & coordinates for
Community and technical content programs run by business units and product teams

Developer advocacy programs run by business units and product teams
Local and regional user group and Meet Up programs
PayPal Developer social media, blogging, videos and messaging platforms
Works with Corporate Marketing, Engineering, Product Management, Sales, and other teams to ensure coordinated activity and a unified, brand-consistent and positive experience with PayPal.

Job Description:

  • Create, lead and scale end-to-end communications strategy and plan to target, reach and engage developers globally

  • Create, lead and scale developer and merchant advisory boards including beta programs

  • Create, lead and scale social media and communication campaigns to align with developer strategies

  • Provide engaging text, image and video content for social media accounts

  • Respond to comments from developers, customers, merchants, partners or ISVs in a timely manner

  • Monitor and report on feedback and online reviews to PM and Engineering teams to ensure roadmap inclusion and resolution

  • Organize and participate in developer and merchant events to build community and boost brand awareness

  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Marketing, PR/Comms and Legal teams to ensure alignment and best outcomes

  • Liaise with Product teams, Development and Sales departments to stay updated on new products and features and bring feedback from developers to PayPal stakeholders

  • Build relationships with developers, potential developers, merchants, industry professionals and journalists

  • Stay up-to-date with AI and other developer technology trends

Qualifications:

  • +10 years managing Community programs and working with remote and geographically distributed teams.

  • 10+ years managing a team of developers and delivering against a roadmap

  • 5+ years architecture and design experience for web commerce

  • 5+ years in a developer relations or product team

  • Demonstrated knowledge of leading open-source technologies, especially those used in the FinTech industry or ecommerce

  • Demonstrated success building, leading and scaling cross functional and global teams

  • Excellent project management and communications skills.

  • Technical proficiency in one or more frontend and web technologies, especially ecommerce technologies, APIs and SDKs

  • Passionate about your work, going far beyond the last mile to bring joy to our developers.

  • Leverage data and testing to optimize and maximize all communications where possible.

  • Partner with corporate cross-functional teams to drive programs that will help us meet our awareness goals.

  • Collaborate with the broader Corporate Marketing team and marketing agencies to drive successful brand awareness campaigns.

  • Demonstrated success building, leading and scaling cross functional and global teams

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Stay up to date with the latest communication’s best practices, technologies and trends

  • Excited about coaching and mentoring others

  • Able to drive cross-team and cross-functional collaboration to solve problems, innovate and improve developer experience

  • Experience in non-technical aspects including business analysis and process optimization

  • Ability to travel up to 20-30% of the time
