At Regions, the Software Engineer oversees application development, modification, and maintenance of applications. This position monitors system applications, ensures systems run smoothly, and creates reports and other documentation outlining findings/solutions. This position sits within Regions' Technology department.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees development and installation of new hardware and software
- Installs and configures systems and other software
- Tests installed software for malfunction detection
- Identifies and resolves business systems issues
- Designs and deploys new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operation systems
- Measures effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems
- Develops and implements strategies to improve systems
- Monitors and tests system performance
- Typically has full ownership of a process
- May act as a procedural expert
- May lead the work of junior level associates
This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
- Five (5) years of experience

- Works with technology and business teams to understand the application architecture, system interfaces, and monitoring requirements.
- Bring different data sources into Splunk via different methods including forwarding, scripting, rest API, DB connect, and HEC.
- Analyze and correlate complex data sets to detect significant events and develop custom searches and dashboards.
- Develop self-service options and automation supporting monitoring and integration with other application or monitoring tools.
- Administer Splunk configurations and perform maintenance in a Linux based indexer and Search Head cluster environment.
Preferences
- 3+ years’ working experience in Python programming or shell scripting supporting Splunk.
- 5+ years’ working experience supporting and implementing Splunk deployment management, search head clustering, and indexer clustering environments.
- 5 years’ working experience in writing complex Splunk searches correlating multiple data sources by using techniques such as conditional control, looping, in line regex, and subsearches.
- Strong analytic skills and learning abilities.
The following skill set is highly desirable
- Working experience supporting and implementing Linux based environments.
- Working experience in Splunk data integrations or automation with other applications/tools via programming
- Prior working experience implementing one or more commercial observability/APM solutions.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture.
This position is intended to be onsite, now or in the near future. Associates will have regular work hours, including full days in the office three or more days a week. The manager will set the work schedule for this position, including in-office expectations. Regions will not provide relocation assistance for this position, and relocation would be at your expense. This position must be within a reasonable driving distance to Birmingham, AL, Nashville, TN, Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC. Exceptions to the geographic location requirement may be made for current Regions associates who work remotely.
Compensation Details
Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.
The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
