Prepares tax returns, conducts tax research, ensures compliance, and assists with tax planning activities for Creative Financial organization. Maintains tax records, prepares tax returns, and tax related schedules and reports. Prepares paperwork for local, state and federal level returns for submission within specified deadlines. Analyzes new tax laws, regulations, and judicial decisions to ensure the organization is compliant. Works with internal and external auditors and regulators.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares complex tax returns and conducts tax research. Prepares tax returns for review by management. Identifies business transactions whose tax return reporting differs from financial reporting. Gathers data to calculate return adjustments and document conclusions. Works with internal staff and outside tax consultants and conducts federal and state tax research and drafts memos in support of conclusions.
- Reconciles data to general ledger and financial systems. Posts adjustments, generates tax reports, facilitates structural changes such as new corporate entities and removing merged entities. Tests completed tax returns for errors and omissions before transmission and rolls forward prior year return data files.
- Recognizes, anticipates and resolves tax issues and makes recommendations. Shares financial data with the Finance department. Responds to tax inquires. Asks probing questions to develop a comprehensive understanding of the business and potential tax issues before responding. Offers recommendations in writing and follows-up to confirm the critical facts have changed
- Identifies tax savings and suggests ways to increase profits. Recommends tax strategies that align with business goals. Completes quarterly tax estimates and settlements. Oversees the posting of inter-corporate tax payments and refunds to general ledger tax accounts.
- Identifies state income tax return filing positions, documents such filing positions, and develops FIN 48 analysis/support. Responds to federal and state income tax audits and notices. Meets productivity and efficiency standards.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Experience:
Five years of job specific experience to include federal and state corporate income tax return preparation and tax compliance, using research software and writing technical advice letters to management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of corporate income tax laws and state tax laws for Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee
- Proficiency using income tax compliance software
- Organizational skills including managing multiple responsibilities with competing deadlines
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products and other business applications
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Experience with One Source tax compliance software and TM1 financial reporting software
