Job Summary

Prepares tax returns, conducts tax research, ensures compliance, and assists with tax planning activities for Creative Financial organization. Maintains tax records, prepares tax returns, and tax related schedules and reports. Prepares paperwork for local, state and federal level returns for submission within specified deadlines. Analyzes new tax laws, regulations, and judicial decisions to ensure the organization is compliant.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares complex tax returns and conducts tax research. Gathers data to prepare returns and research. Works with internal staff and outside clients and conducts federal and state tax research.
  • Recognizes, anticipates and resolves tax issues and makes recommendations. Responds to tax inquires. Asks probing questions to develop a comprehensive understanding of the potential tax issues before responding. Offers recommendations in writing and follows-up to confirm the critical facts have changed.
  • Identifies and recommends tax strategies that align with client goals. Completes quarterly tax estimates.
  • Identifies and completes state income tax return filing requirements. Responds to federal and state income tax audits and notices. Meets productivity and efficiency standards.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience:

Job specific experience to include federal and state income tax return preparation and tax compliance and using research software.

Certifications:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or Enrolled Agent -REQUIRED

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of income tax laws and state tax laws
  • Proficiency using income tax compliance software
  • Organizational skills including managing multiple responsibilities with competing deadlines
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products and other business applications

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Experience with Lacerte.
