Job Description

The Head of Data Operations is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of enterprise data operations, including data ingestion, integration, storage, processing, and availability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This role ensures that high-quality, timely, and reliable data is delivered to business stakeholders and analytics platforms, supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization.

  • Operational Leadership - Lead the Data Operations team including data engineers, platform administrators, and support analysts. Drive excellence in data ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehousing, and data delivery
  • Data Platform Management - Manage and scale the enterprise data platform(s), including cloud and on-premises solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS/Azure services)
  • Data Pipeline Reliability - Design, monitor, and continuously improve data pipelines to ensure consistent data availability, minimal downtime, and high data quality
  • Incident & SLA Management - Own operational KPIs, incident response procedures, and service level agreements (SLAs) for data delivery and platform performance
  • Collaboration - Work closely with Data Engineering, BI/Analytics, Governance, and Security teams to ensure alignment and support cross-functional initiatives
  • Automation & Efficiency - Drive automation of repetitive data tasks and implement observability tools to proactively identify and resolve issues
  • Security & Compliance - Ensure data operations comply with data privacy, security, and regulatory standards. Support audit and compliance reporting needs
  • Cost Optimization - Monitor and optimize cloud data platform spend, storage, and processing costs
  • Documentation & Standards - Establish best practices for data operations, including version control, metadata, lineage tracking, and runbooks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data infrastructure, or data operations
  • 8+ years of experience leading technical teams or managing data platforms at scale
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of cloud data technologies (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), SQL, Python, and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Prefect)
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD practices, and monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Familiarity with data quality and governance frameworks
  • Travel required approximately 10-15% within the United States
  • The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $193,035.00 - $227,100.00
