Job Description

The Head of Data Innovation and Tools will drive innovation in data capabilities and tooling across the organization. This role bridges data science, software engineering, and strategic innovation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Identifying, evaluating, and implementing advanced tools, platforms, and techniques to improve how data is collected, processed, analyzed, and utilized across teams.

  • Evaluate and implement emerging data technologies and tools (e.g., data platforms, machine learning operations, AI tooling, data visualization)
  • Lead pilot initiatives and proof-of-concept projects that test new ways to extract value from data
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and improve data workflows, pipelines, and integration processes
  • Act as a subject matter expert for best practices in data tooling and infrastructure, guiding data teams in the adoption of new solutions
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and engineers to ensure efficient tool adoption and capability scaling
  • Conduct market scans and competitive analysis to identify trends and opportunities in data and AI tooling
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops to promote innovation and upskilling within the data community
  • Ensure data governance, security, and compliance are maintained while innovating with new tools

RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in a data-related role with a strong focus on tools, platforms, and innovation
  • Experience with modern data and analytics stacks (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Looker, Airflow, Apache Spark)
  • Proficient in scripting/programming (e.g., Python, SQL, R)
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps/dataops practices
  • Strong communication and project management skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
  • Travel required approximately 10-15% within the United States
  • This role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $214,795.00 - $252,700.00
