Job Description
The Head of AI Platform Engineering will spearhead the bank’s enterprise-wide AI technology strategy implementation, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and customer-centric transformation through artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. This executive role bridges technical expertise with strategic vision, ensuring responsible, ethical, and scalable AI adoption across all business units. This role will oversee the technology strategy, development and implementation of AI models and platforms, enabling the bank to leverage AI for enhanced efficiency and innovation. This role will be responsible for modernizing the organization's technology function by integrating AI to enhance efficiency, customer interactions, and overall system stability and ensure that the AI platform is scalable, secure, and capable of driving business growth and innovation across the enterprise. This leader must possess a blend of cross-functional collaboration, influence, technical skills, and leadership to successfully drive AI initiatives across the enterprise. The leader will navigate the complexities of AI integration, inspire and guide teams, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Define and execute the bank’s AI technology strategy aligned with business goals.
- Identify high-impact AI opportunities across departments (e.g., fraud detection, risk modeling, customer service automation).
- Establish AI governance frameworks to ensure transparency, fairness, and compliance with regulations.
- Monitor and mitigate risks related to bias, explainability, and data privacy.
- Collaborate with risk, legal, and compliance teams to ensure responsible AI use.
- Build and lead multidisciplinary AI teams (data scientists, engineers, architecture).
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and ethical AI practices.
- Upskill existing staff and promote AI literacy across the organization.
- Translate business requirements into scalable AI solutions.
- Integrate AI into core banking systems and customer engagement platforms.
- Track and report on AI performance metrics (e.g., cost savings, customer satisfaction).
PREFERRED SKILLS/Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-grade platforms (not SaaS).
- Hands-on engineering background (app development or infrastructure).
- Expertise in Cloud, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- End-to-end platform delivery and adoption experience.
- Cloud experience: Azure and AWS preferred; GCP acceptable.
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence for backlog management.
- Proven experience leading large engineering teams (50+ including managers).
- Skilled in backlog prioritization and delivering diverse AI capabilities.
- Track record of platform delivery beyond POC with multiple enhancements.
- Strategic collaboration with senior leadership.
- Strong grasp of AI governance, ethics, and compliance.
- Ability to inspire teams and navigate complex AI integration.
- Proven record of fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
LOCATION EXPECTATIONS
- This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $214,795.00 - $252,700.00U.S. Bank will consider qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records for employment.
