Job Description

We’re looking for a high‑impact business development professional who thrives on building relationships, opening doors, and creating opportunity through Small Business Administration (SBA) lending—with a strong emphasis on owner‑occupied commercial real estate financing.

This role is built for someone who enjoys being out in the market, developing Centers of Influence (COIs), and serving as a trusted advisor to business owners, referral partners, and internal stakeholders. More than 80% of your time will be spent on external sales, relationship development, and market presence.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and originate SBA loan opportunities by proactively building a strong pipeline through COIs, referral partners, cold outreach, and existing relationships.
  • Serve as a consultative partner to business owners by meeting them at their place of business to understand operations, goals, and financing needs—particularly related to owner‑occupied commercial real estate.
  • Build, deepen, and maintain profitable specialty finance relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Represent U.S. Bank in the market by actively participating in civic, community, and business events to strengthen the Bank’s brand and generate new business opportunities.
  • Partner closely with Business Banking, Community, and Commercial teams to exchange leads, align on strategy, and exceed shared growth objectives.
  • Own the SBA lending process end‑to‑end, including:
    • Origination and structuring of SBA loan requests
    • Gathering and analyzing financial and credit information
    • Developing complete SBA loan packages and submitting to the SBA processing center
    • Delivering commitment letters, reviewing program details, and supporting loan closings
  • Contribute to portfolio growth by originating high‑quality SBA applications aligned with credit standards and business strategy.
  • Proactively deepen relationships by identifying additional customer needs and referring opportunities to other U.S. Bank partners and solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Five to eight years of commercial credit, relationship banking or other job‑related experience

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Demonstrated success in business development, B2B sales, and relationship‑driven revenue growth, ideally within financial services or commercial lending
  • Proven ability to build, manage, and leverage Centers of Influence (COIs) such as real estate professionals, CPAs, attorneys, brokers, and community leaders
  • Strong understanding of SBA lending products and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), with the ability to confidently guide customers and partners through the process
  • Consultative sales mindset with the ability to identify client needs, structure solutions, and position value, not just products
  • Strong credit, financial analysis, and deal‑structuring skills, with sound judgment around credit quality and risk
  • Ability to independently manage a robust external sales pipeline while coordinating effectively with internal partners
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills, with comfort engaging business owners, referral partners, and internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Highly developed analytical, problem‑solving, and prioritization skills in a fast‑paced, goal‑driven environment

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.
